The Marks Trust formed in 2012, with the aim of helping to revive Bedford’s skilled employment opportunities which have been lost over the last 3 decades. We are an independent local charity based in Bedford, born out of the vision and generosity of the Marks family who have employed many hundreds of people in their local businesses.
In the past, Bedford was a hive of industry offering high skilled roles with Texas Instruments, National Freight, Exel Logistics, Toblerone, Granada TV Rentals, Meltis, Crayola, WH Allens and George Fischer Castings to name but a few. Unfortunately, Bedford lost these companies and has been prone to attracting predominantly logistic warehousing, rather than the variety of roles previously enjoyed locally. In turn this affected the quality of life for locals who now have to extend their day by 4 hours and travel to London to gain similar roles.
We feel it is important that Bedford regains similar businesses to provide locals a better quality of life and choice of local employment, which will in turn boost other local businesses in Bedford.
